2. No Written Quotes: An Unlicensed Contractor otherwise known as an Illegal Contractor never offer written quotes to clients. As soon as they put something in writing to a consumer they, in fact, are acting as a Licensed Contractor and are in jeopardy of violating the contractor’s laws in the State of California. They can be subject to fines, penalties, and imprisonment.
A quote is a legal contract and can protect consumers from Fraudulent and Malicious Activities. NO Workers Compensation Insurance: An Unlicensed Contractor and Illegal Contractor does not maintain any Workers Compensation Insurance for any helper, co-worker, or employee they might use to work on a job or project. 5. NO Performance Bond: Unlicensed Contractors and Illegal Contractors do not maintain a Performance Bond to provide financial compensation to a consumer for unfinished work, or for defects with the equipment and material installed by them, or defects in construction or workmanship.
The Performance Bond is only available to Licensed Contractors and not to Unlicensed Contractor California individuals and assists the consumer with some financial compensation if a contractor defaults on a contract or leaves a job unfinished. Otherwise, the consumer would be liable to pay for the completion of a job in a satisfactory condition. NO Liquid Assets: Most Unlicensed Contractors and an Illegal Contractor does not have the financial assets available to compensate a consumer if a tragedy or catastrophe occurs during a job or project. Most of them are under-capitalized, working out of broken-down vehicles, carrying little to no inventory, and many of them don’t even own a home.
If a tragedy occurs and the unlicensed individual is at fault, the Consumer will pay for all the damages to restore their property and will have no recourse against the individual for any lost revenue. 7. NO Plumbing (C36) or Water Filtration (C-55) License:
The Contractor’s State License Board (CSLB) requires ALL PLUMBING and WATER TREATMENT Contractors to be Registered and Licensed with them. Qualifying requires a minimum of 4 years of education, training, and field experience in the trade category they are applying under. Applicants must pass a written test regarding Occupational Codes, Labor Law, and State Law before receiving the license. The CSLB also stipulates that ANY INDIVIDUAL or COMPANY performing work that exceeds $500.00 MUST BE LICENSED BY THE CSLB!

8. NO TRUST WITH CASH Advance or Down Payments:

Licensed Contractors may ask for a $1000.00 cash deposit or only 10% of the total cost of the job or project, whichever is lesser of the two amounts before commencing work.

9. NO Labor or Goods Guarantee: An Unlicensed Contractor or Illegal Contractor DO NOT GUARANTEE the performance or reliability of ANY Parts, Fittings, Fixtures, or Equipment they install. If a problem develops after an unlicensed contractor installs them there is no recourse or retribution against them as with licensed contractors.
The Contractors State License Board, CSLB mandates that all licensed contractors offer a 1-year Performance Guarantee for any goods, supplies, or equipment installed. This helps protect the consumer from unscrupulous individuals who install recycled, re-manufactured, or used goods and charge the consumer for new goods.
