Building Codes, and Plumbing, Water Filtration, and Building Permits
Building permits are written authorizations issued by a city, county, or state jurisdiction to repair, alter, or construct a building or structure project. They are required for most construction or remodeling projects to ensure the worker’s safety and compliance with building, construction, and zoning codes. In addition to obtaining building permits, you may need to obtain a secondary permit, such as electrical, plumbing, or mechanical permits, depending on your project’s scope.
Building Codes are co-created regulations by municipal officials and tradespeople to govern the design, construction, repair, or alteration of buildings, which include residential and commercial structures.
These codes apply to virtually every structure, including garages, houses, schools, churches, agricultural and commercial buildings. Building codes exist to protect the life, health, and safety of the individuals who will inhabit houses, buildings, and structures and protect the environment from potential hazards. The benefit is that building codes establish a building’s quality, safety, and energy performance for years to come.
You must obtain a permit when installing a Water Heater, and you may need to obtain a plumbing permit if you plan to install an underground lawn sprinkler. Or, you may need a mechanical permit to install a central air conditioning unit. The only way to determine whether your project needs building permits is to consult your jurisdictional building and permit office.
