TEST BEFORE YOU CHANGE SETTINGS
Salt use or a scheduled regeneration does not prove the unit is delivering soft water. If performance changes, Water Fixers can check treated-water hardness, brine draw, drain flow, bypass position, valve operation, settings and resin condition before deciding what needs to be repaired or replaced.

SET UP THE SOFTENER FOR REAL MAINTENANCE
A serviceable Buellton setup makes it possible to check the bypass, watch drain flow, inspect brine components and reach the controls without disturbing other plumbing.
The brine tank should be practical to fill, inspect and clean as the system ages.
A reachable bypass helps isolate the softener during diagnosis or plumbing work.
Drain tubing, fittings and nearby shutoffs should remain visible enough to inspect for restrictions or leaks.
A system that uses salt or enters regeneration can still be failing somewhere in the cycle.
Check settings, salt condition, brine draw, drain flow and treated-water hardness when the equipment is basically serviceable.
Controls, valves, tubing, seals and regeneration problems should be diagnosed before a whole system is condemned.
Replacement makes sense when repair value is poor, the unit is repeatedly troublesome or its capacity no longer fits the home.
