START WITH THE WATER SERVING THE PROPERTY
Santa Ynez River Water Conservation District, Improvement District No. 1 reports that its 2025 supply included groundwater from the Santa Ynez Upland groundwater basin and lower Santa Ynez River alluvium, along with State Water Project surface water. That is useful public-system context, but it does not mean every Santa Ynez address has the same provider, source or household water conditions.
For RO planning, confirm the water serving the property, any existing softener or whole-house treatment, feed pressure, installation space and the drinking-water goal. If a property uses a private well or another supply, evaluate that water on its own information and testing rather than applying District assumptions.

Under-sink reverse osmosis is a point-of-use drinking-water treatment. It is not a substitute for whole-house softening, source-specific private-well testing, or a whole-house filtration plan. Matching the treatment to the actual goal keeps the RO system focused on the job it is meant to do.
RO provides treated drinking and cooking water at a dedicated faucet and can sometimes serve a refrigerator line when the installation supports it.
If hardness and mineral scale are the concern throughout the home, evaluate a water softener separately. A current hardness result is more useful than assuming every Santa Ynez property has the same water.
Feed pressure, sediment loading and existing upstream treatment can affect RO production and service. Confirm those conditions before choosing or troubleshooting equipment.

EXISTING RO SYSTEMS
Water Fixers can service many existing reverse osmosis systems, including equipment installed by another company. Start by identifying the model, water source, upstream treatment, service history and actual symptom before assuming the membrane—or the whole system—needs replacement.
When flow, taste or service interval is the concern, identify the installed cartridges and service history before choosing replacements.
A little-used or long-idle system may need inspection, sanitation and a controlled restart before performance is judged.
Evaluate the membrane after prefilters, feed pressure, tank behavior and operating conditions are checked.
Check storage-tank air charge, usable volume and refill behavior when the faucet gives only a short burst or weak delivery.
Inspect housings, O-rings, tubing, fittings, the faucet and drain connection before replacing unrelated components.
Replacement becomes more practical when damage repeats, major parts are unavailable, or several high-value components need work at once.
