WATER FIXERS • OWNERSHIP THAT MAKES SENSE

Better water should come with a system worth keeping.

Your drinking water system or softener will need attention long after installation day. The purchase price matters. So do replacement parts, routine service, repair options and the people available to help.

Here is how to compare the whole ownership picture—and where the Water Fixers approach fits.

Under-sink reverse osmosis equipment with filter housings, a storage tank and drinking-water faucet
Installation space and future service access belong in the buying decision.

The quick answer: Choose equipment that fits your water and household, uses correctly matched quality components, and has a clear path for filters, maintenance and repairs.

Water Fixers advises against unnecessary proprietary lock-in. We also service many other brands and can help keep existing equipment operating when it remains practical to repair.

What proprietary equipment can mean for the owner

A proprietary design may use a manufacturer-specific cartridge, connector, control board or replacement assembly. That can make a filter change convenient, or allow a compact design. It can also narrow your choices when a part wears out.

Before buying, find out who supplies the correct replacements, what they cost, who can install them and what happens if a required part is discontinued. A dependable service path deserves as much attention as the first filter change.

Proprietary does not automatically mean poor quality. The useful comparison is the exact model, its treatment capabilities and its long-term support. Likewise, “serviceable” does not mean any similar-looking filter or fitting will work. Compatibility still needs to be confirmed.

Why Water Fixers puts serviceability first

We source our systems’ components from trusted, quality-focused suppliers and select them for reliable performance, compatibility and long-term service. The value is in how the equipment, installation and support work together.

  • Correct parts for the installed system: we identify the configuration before matching filters, membranes or repair components.
  • Plumbing and filtration together: feed connections, pressure, tanks, faucets, drains and treatment equipment are part of the same installation.
  • Practical repair decisions: a worn tank, leaking fitting or control problem may be an individual repair rather than a reason to replace everything.
  • A local team after the sale: Water Fixers serves Santa Maria and communities across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

Explore our RO ownership guide and water softener ownership guide for the equipment-specific comparisons.

Serviceable equipment should also fit the treatment goal

Water Fixers’ price sheet lists 0.5-micron cartridge options. Fine-particle filtration, activated carbon and an RO membrane have different jobs. Particle filters help capture sediment; carbon is used for chlorine taste and odor reduction; the RO membrane adds separation of dissolved salts and other substances that particle filtration alone may leave behind.

A micron rating by itself does not establish a complete list of contaminant reductions. We confirm the supplied components and match documented performance to your water. Specific claims about lead, PFAS, arsenic or other contaminants require the exact model’s supporting data. CDC’s filter-selection guide explains why the treatment method and product label both matter.

Seven Water Fixers RO systems. One local service team.

Water Fixers offers seven residential RO options across four series. The right choice depends on water conditions, available space, pressure, household demand and the supplied component package. More stages alone do not establish better treatment performance.

Annual filter care and a three-year membrane review

Routine filters and the RO membrane do different jobs. They do not automatically need replacement together.

Use a yearly check-in to review what is due

A Water Fixers service review can include identifying the installed cartridges, replacing due filters, inspecting housings and seals, checking tubing, fittings, tank and faucet operation, flushing and sanitation when appropriate, and checking for leaks after repressurizing.

Some filters need attention sooner. Timing follows the installed components, source water, use, service history and manufacturer guidance. A calendar reminder starts the conversation; it does not replace an equipment-specific service plan.

Around year three, evaluate the membrane separately

Review membrane age and performance alongside production, treated-water performance, feed pressure, prefilter condition and service history. Replace it when performance or applicable service requirements call for replacement.

Three years is a review checkpoint, not an automatic membrane replacement deadline. A healthy membrane may continue in service. A poorly performing membrane may need attention earlier.

What Water Fixers RO ownership can cost

A good ownership comparison starts with actual prices and a clear explanation of what each number includes. Here are the RO package and maintenance prices provided by Water Fixers.

Water Fixers RO package prices
Model Complete Complete 1:1 Manifold upgrade Manifold upgrade 1:1
SPS-3T $399.99 $499.99 $299.99 $399.99
SPS-5T $499.99 $599.99 $399.99 $499.99
EPS-3T $899.99 $999.99 $699.99 $799.99
EPS-5T $1,099.99 $1,199.99 $899.99 $999.99

These are the listed package prices. “Complete,” “Complete 1:1” and manifold upgrades are separate options, not interchangeable quotes. Confirm the included equipment, installation labor, tax and any plumbing changes in your written estimate. The price sheet does not separately identify new-installation labor. We will confirm whether a manifold upgrade fits the existing installation. CPS and UPS pricing is available by quote.

Routine filters, professional service and membranes priced separately

RO maintenance configurations shown on our price sheet — before tax
Service configuration Parts Service charge Subtotal before tax
Three-stage filters $89.98 $145.00 $234.98
Three-stage filters + 24 GPD membrane $169.97 $145.00 $314.97
Five-stage filters $159.96 $145.00 $304.96
Five-stage filters + 24 GPD membrane $239.95 $145.00 $384.95

The three-stage routine filter package shown contains two listed cartridges at $49.99 and $39.99. The five-stage package adds the listed $44.99 and $24.99 cartridges. Both service configurations show a $145 service charge. The listed 24 GPD membrane is $79.99, added only when that membrane is appropriate and replacement is due.

Compare the same scope. A professional service subtotal includes the listed service charge. An online filter-kit price usually describes parts alone. Compare correct parts with correct parts, then add equivalent labor, membranes and operating costs.

The service rows describe the configurations on our price sheet; they are not a promise that every three- or five-stage system uses those exact parts. Membrane capacity and compatibility must match the equipment. Other listed membrane capacities range from $69.99 to $139.99; the separate 36 GPD 1:1 option with a check valve is $149.00, with a listed $24.99 flow restrictor when required.

A five- and ten-year maintenance budget

For planning, the example below assumes one routine filter service visit per year at the prices above, with one $79.99 membrane in year three and additional $79.99 membranes in years six and nine for the ten-year example. It assumes membrane work occurs during the scheduled visit without another service charge.

Illustrative Water Fixers maintenance budget — before tax
Configuration shown 5 years 10 years
Three-stage configuration $1,254.89 $2,589.77
Five-stage configuration $1,604.79 $3,289.57

Budget scenario, not a replacement schedule or guaranteed quote. Membranes are evaluated by performance and applicable requirements; replacement could be earlier or later. Prices are held constant for this arithmetic. These totals exclude system purchase, installation, tax, additional repairs, extra visits, water use and powered accessories. We confirm the correct maintenance package and membrane for the selected model before preparing a complete ownership estimate.

Repair individual components when it makes sense

The price sheet also lists a plastic storage tank at $125, a metal storage tank at $135, filter housings at $39.99 or $49.99, and air-gap faucet options from $109.99 to $279.99. These are component prices before tax and any applicable labor. The correct selection depends on the system and installation.

That is a practical benefit of serviceable equipment: when the rest of the system is sound, we can price an appropriate individual repair and compare it with replacement. A serviceable design earns its value through correct parts, clear costs and support over time.

Water Fixers supplied these prices for this guide. Availability, package inclusions and current pricing are confirmed when quoting your equipment.

Compare ownership with repeat drinking-water purchases

Your equipment decision also affects how you buy drinking water. The local illustration below uses 30 US gallons per calendar month over five years, or 1,800 gallons. It combines Water Fixers’ supplied prices with published delivery prices observed for Santa Maria and ZIP 93455 on November 3, 2026.

Five years of drinking water: same 1,800-gallon target
Option Basis used Five-year subtotal
Water Fixers SPS-3T ownership example $399.99 package + five $234.98 filter services + one $79.99 membrane allowance $1,654.88
Store-bought bottled water 341 whole cases of 40 × 16.9 fl oz bottles at $5.97 per case $2,035.77
Culligan bottled-water delivery, Santa Maria Published 30-gallon plan at $42 per month × 60 months $2,520.00
Primo purified-water delivery scenario, ZIP 93455 Six $9.49 five-gallon bottles + one $14.99 delivery per calendar month × 60 months $4,315.80

These are illustrative price subtotals, before unquoted costs. The Water Fixers example includes the listed system package and planned professional filter care. Installation, source-water and energy costs, tax, additional repairs and price changes are not added. Delivery plans may have fuel, cooler, setup or other charges; deposits are separate. Exact package inclusions and compatible components are confirmed in a written quote.

The listed Water Fixers subtotal is $865.12 below the Culligan bottled-delivery subtotal and $2,660.92 below the Primo delivery scenario, before unquoted costs. The difference from the store-case illustration is $380.89. These are conditional differences between the stated price subtotals, not guaranteed savings.

Keep the two comparisons distinct. This table compares owning an RO system with repeatedly purchasing drinking water. It does not establish that a proprietary RO system costs more, or that bottled water and competing systems provide inferior treatment. For an equipment comparison, match the exact models, compatible parts, installed quotes, service and documented claims.

Look beyond the filter cartridge

A useful ownership comparison includes the installed system price, recurring filters, membrane service, maintenance labor, potential repairs and relevant operating costs. For RO, ask about treated-water production and reject-water performance under the conditions that apply to the home. Review electrical requirements where a pump, UV component or other powered equipment is included.

Also ask what the written warranty covers: parts, labor, service calls and exclusions. A warranty term alone does not tell you who will do the work or what the homeowner may need to pay.

A modest repair may make sense when the remaining equipment is sound and compatible parts are obtainable. Repeated failures, discontinued parts or several worn components can change that decision. Diagnosis helps put the repair quote and replacement quote in context.

The same ownership questions apply to water softeners

A softener needs its own comparison. Hardness, household water use, simultaneous flow, salt dose, regeneration, valve service and resin condition all matter. The RO annual-filter and three-year-membrane discussion is not a softener resin replacement schedule.

Water Fixers offers SoftFlo-C, SoftFlo-S, SoftFlo-SE, SoftFlo-SEC and SmartSoft. Compare the actual configuration and sizing assumptions, with a clear plan for salt, service and future repairs.

Before choosing, ask which valve, controls, bypass and brine components can be serviced separately; how appropriate resin service is handled; and who can obtain the correct parts locally. The largest capacity number does not automatically identify the right softener for a home.

Already own another brand? Start with the system you have.

You do not need to replace working equipment simply because it is proprietary or was installed by another company. Water Fixers evaluates many existing RO and softener brands, subject to condition, access and compatible parts availability.

Keeping a supported system can be a sensible investment. If it has become impractical to maintain, we can explain why and compare replacement options. Find your RO brand or softener brand to start the service conversation.

Five questions to ask before buying

  1. Can I obtain the correct parts later? Ask for component identifiers, supply options and a plan for discontinued parts.
  2. What does the warranty cover? Compare parts, labor, service calls, exclusions and the local repair process.
  3. What will ownership cost? Compare the same filters, membranes, labor, repairs and operating assumptions.
  4. Does this exact model fit my home? Review water conditions, pressure, space, tank and faucet placement, household demand and optional refrigerator connections.
  5. Are the treatment claims documented? Match the exact model’s relevant certification and performance data to the treatment goal.

Common ownership questions

Are all Water Fixers replacement parts universal?

No. Compatibility depends on the installed model and supplied configuration. We confirm the appropriate parts for that equipment.

Does a three-year-old RO membrane automatically need replacement?

No. Three years is a useful review checkpoint. Replacement follows performance, operating conditions and applicable equipment requirements.

Do the local cost examples guarantee savings?

No. They show differences between the stated price subtotals. Actual savings depend on your water use, current alternative, installed quote, compatible parts, upkeep and operating costs. The bottled-water comparison is separate from a model-by-model proprietary equipment comparison.

Will Water Fixers repair equipment it did not install?

We evaluate many other brands and recommend a practical service, repair or replacement path based on condition and compatible parts availability.
